Abraham Lincoln

 Learning About Our Presidents
Abraham Lincoln

During whole group lessons we read various expository texts and watched videos about Abraham Lincoln. We had our students think, pair and share by discussing facts that they learned about our past president. They also wrote and drew pictures about him in their journals.

After reading a story about Abraham Lincoln and his childhood, our kindergarten students created log cabins by using large popsicle sticks and pre-cut triangles for the roof.

Once they were finished creating their log cabin, they designed their log cabin by using markers and added some detail to the background of their picture.

Completed Log Cabins

After watching a video on United Streaming about Abraham Lincoln our students completed a picture of Abraham Lincoln. We cut streamers into pieces for them to crumble up and fill in his beard! You can use tissue paper but we found that streamer was cheaper (you can find it at the .99 store!).
They colored their picture first.

Next they crumbled up the streamer and glued it to Abraham Lincoln's beard.

Lastly they cut his face out and glued it to a black sheet of construction paper.

Happy President's Day!
